SRE has been charged with redesigning Siemens company headquarters in Munich. The plan is to demolish a large number of the old buildings and construct new, modern buildings in their place. “In these times of globalization, we want to demonstrate our full commitment to Munich. It will give Siemens and Munich a new green flagship and a symbol of sustainable city development,” said Peter Löscher.
Together with the City of Munich, SRE will put together the basic outline for the architectural competition by the beginning of 2011. It is already certain, however, that the neo-classical palace at Wittelsbacher-Square, built by Leo von Klenze in the 19th century, and the building complex on Oskar-von-Miller-Ring, designed by architect Richard Meier in the late 1990s, will both be retained.
SRE will construct environmentally-friendly buildings with energy-efficient technology from Siemens, which will meet the highest construction standards for sustainability. The construction project is therefore also an important contribution to sustainable city development.
SRE will implement the Siemens Office concept in the new building ensemble to create modern workstations that meet today’s requirements for flexible, mobile employees and boost their creativity and performance.
The construction work is set to begin at the end of 2012 and should be completed in 2015.
